The Secretary General of the Assyrian Democratic Movement (ADM), Mr. Yacoob Yaco, led a senior leadership delegation in a meeting with His Beatitude Mar Louis Raphael Sako, Patriarch of the Chaldean Catholic Church and a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. The meeting was held on Sunday afternoon at the Patriarchal Headquarters in Baghdad.
The discussion focused on the current conditions facing the Christian Chaldean Syriac Assyrian people in Iraq amid ongoing political and security developments, as well as escalating regional tensions and their potential repercussions for the country. Both sides exchanged views on the challenges confronting the community and explored possible approaches and mechanisms to address them. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of unifying positions, coordination, and responsible public discourse among the community’s political, religious, and civic institutions during this sensitive and exceptional period.
Mr. Yaco was accompanied by Aylit Korkis, head of the ADM’s Baghdad branch; Yaqoub Irmia, a member of the Movement’s leadership; and several other members from the Baghdad branch.
His Excellency Bishop Mar Basilius Yaldo, Patriarchal Auxiliary of the Chaldean Catholic Church, was also in attendance.
The meeting underscored the shared concern of political and ecclesiastical leadership for the future of the Chaldean Syriac Assyrian people in Iraq and the necessity of continued dialogue and cooperation in addressing the challenges facing the community.
