Iraqi Artists Bring Back Assyrian Past
From Gilgamesh to Sennacherib, Iraqi artists are reviving Assyrian history through new public monuments across Mosul and the Nineveh region.

Increasingly, Iraqi artists are recreating Assyrian art in various locations in Iraq, especially in the Nineveh area. The recent sculpture of Gilgamesh by artist Ahmed Hassan is based on the Dur Sharrukin sculpture that came from Sargon II's palace and is now being housed in the Louvre museum in Paris. The current sculpture stands over 2 meters high.
